Issuance of site permit for a dry spent nuclear fuel storage facility for AL-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant

The Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority’s Board issued Monday, 28 February 2022, the site permit for a dry spent nuclear fuel storage facility for AL-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. The storage facility will be used in order to store the spent fuel throughout the life of the plant, which is estimated at about 60 years.
During the past months, ENRRA held extensive meetings to review and evaluate the site’s safety. The authority issued today the permit after receiving the approval on the environmental impact assessment report, from the Environmental Affairs Authority, on January 26, 2022.
It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority, under Law No. 7 of 2010, undertakes all the regulatory and supervisory responsibilities related to nuclear and radiological activities to benefit from the peaceful uses of atomic energy, in a manner that ensures the safety and security of humans, property and the environment from the dangers of exposure to ionizing radiation.
