ENRRA Holds Bilateral Meetings with Turkey, Russia, and the European Commission to Strengthen Cooperation in Nuclear Regulation and Nuclear Safety.

As part of the participation of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) in the 70th Session of the IAEA General Conference, held in Vienna, Austria, from 14 to 18 September 2026, Dr. Hany Khedr, Chairman of ENRRA, held a series of bilateral meetings with Turkey (NDK), Russia (Rostekhnadzor), and the European Commission, with the participation of Mr. Ramy Afifi, Senior Strategic Communications and International Cooperation Specialist at ENRRA.

The meetings focused on strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise in regulatory and technical areas related to the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

Dr. Hany Khedr began his meetings with the Turkish delegation from (NDK). The meeting discussed prospects for cooperation and the exchange of expertise in regulatory areas related to nuclear activities. He highlighted the potential for mutual benefit through enhanced cooperation and exchange of experience between the two regulatory bodies, particularly during the pre-operational phase.

This was followed by a meeting with the Russian regulatory authority (Rostekhnadzor), to discuss the progress achieved between the two sides. Dr. Khedr expressed his appreciation to the Russian side for its support in building ENRRA’s regulatory capabilities.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of continuing to develop the existing partnership, deepening technical cooperation, and exchanging expertise in ways that support ENRRA’s preparedness for the upcoming stages of Egypt’s nuclear power program, while opening new avenues for cooperation including advanced nuclear technologies.

Concluding the series of meetings, ENRRA held discussions with representatives of the European Commission to review developments in ongoing cooperation and emphasize the importance of continuing support for joint programs and projects. Such cooperation contributes to strengthening ENRRA’s regulatory and technical capabilities and benefiting from European expertise, while supporting national priorities in nuclear regulation and nuclear safety, particularly as Egypt’s nuclear power program continues to advance.

Dr. Khedr expressed his appreciation for the continued cooperation between ENRRA and the European Union, noting that the progress achieved recently within a relatively short period reflects the importance of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union and demonstrates a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in nuclear regulation and nuclear safety.

These bilateral meetings form part of ENRRA’s efforts to expand its international cooperation network, strengthen the exchange of expertise and knowledge with regulatory bodies and international partners, and benefit from international experience in regulatory and technical fields. These efforts contribute to the development of national capabilities and the enhancement of nuclear security and safety in Egypt.
