ENRRA Chairman’s participation in the Climate Conference 2022

In a speech on the sidelines of participation in the COP 27 Climate Conference, in the presence of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Shaker Al-Marqabi, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy and senior representatives of international bodies and government representatives, H.E Prof. Dr. Sami Shaaban, Chairman of the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority, confirms:

 

H.E the President has taken strategic decisions to ensure the sustainability and diversity of energy sources, including the construction of nuclear power plants to generate electricity.

 

Cooperation in an era full of challenges is necessary to achieve a major goal of achieving comprehensive sustainable development for our peoples without harming the environment.

 

The Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Authority has taken number of measures to emphasize being an independent regulatory body that performs its role effectively to protect people, property and the environment.

 

H.E Prof. Dr. Sami Shaaban, Chairman of the Board participated on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, in a session: “The Dabaa Nuclear Plant – Clean and Sustainable Energy”, with the participation of the Director General of the World Nuclear Association.

 

Shaaban confirmed in his speech that ENRRA is an independent regulatory body, established by Law No. 7 of 2010, with the aim of carrying out all regulatory and monitoring activities to benefit from the peaceful uses of atomic energy, and among its tasks is to ensure that nuclear facilities are built and operated in a manner that does not have any negative impact on public health or the environment. In order to activate this oversight role, the authority carried out a number of inspection visits to the Dabaa nuclear plant site to ensure the readiness of the site to start construction. It granted construction permission for the first unit, then the second unit with conditions, as soon as it was confirmed that there is no harm to people, property and the environment.

 

Then H.E mentioned the most important measures taken by the Authority to respond effectively to the growing importance of nuclear energy, especially in light of H.E the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt strategic decision to construct and build nuclear power plants to generate electricity in a way that enhances energy security, and these steps aim to build a strong and independent regulatory body, and from The most important of these procedures: 1- Achieving complete independence and autonomy without isolation from the intrested parties. 2- Developing a clear organizational structure with specific tasks and responsibilities. 3- Attracting the best cadres and providing them with the necessary skills through intensive training programs. 4- An integrated management system that organizes all procedures and operations within the Authority. 5- A knowledge management system that aims to retain the necessary knowledge and sharing best practices around the world.
