The Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) Concludes Its Awareness Journey Across Southern Egypt with a First-of-Its-Kind Visit to Aswan Governorate

20 July, 2025
For the first time, ENRRA launched its public awareness activities in Aswan Governorate, concluding its southern Egypt outreach tour with an educational seminar hosted at the Misr Public Library in Aswan. The initiative aimed to raise public understanding of nuclear and radiological safety, clarify the Authority’s regulatory and oversight role, and address widespread misinformation—particularly in light of recent regional developments.
The seminar saw participation from diverse local stakeholders including representatives of Al-Azhar, the Church, the Ministry of Awqaf, Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, the National Council for Women, South Women’s Associations, and several media professionals and journalists.
The session opened with a detailed presentation by Dr. Mahitab El Manawy, Head of Public Relations and International Cooperation at ENRRA, who outlined the Authority’s mandate, structure, and responsibilities. She specifically addressed Egypt’s radiological status and debunked misinformation circulating through unofficial and unqualified sources. Dr. El-Manawy emphasized that ENRRA maintains open communication with the public through its official website, social media platforms, and the Cabinet’s official page, as well as direct engagement with media representatives. She also highlighted the Authority’s nationwide awareness campaign—launched in response to regional events—in cooperation with the Misr Public Library Network under an existing protocol.
The campaign has so far reached communities in Banha (Qalyubia Governorate), Cairo and Giza, Ismailia, Damietta, Luxor, and now Aswan. Dr. El-Manawy reaffirmed that ENRRA continues 24/7 monitoring of the status of regional nuclear facilities and called on citizens to rely on official ENRRA statements as the most trusted source of information.
The event was attended by Ms. Iman Khafagy, Director of Misr Public Library in Aswan, along with ENRRA’s outreach team: Mr. Ramy Afifi, Senior Specialist in Strategic Communication and International Cooperation and ENRRA’s liaison with the Misr Public Library Network; and Mr. Mahmoud Gouda, Senior Specialist in Public Relations and Editor-in-Chief of ENRRA Magazine.
Following the seminar, the team launched the first interactive workshop with children from the library’s summer activity camp (ages 4–12), which included storytelling and drawing sessions.
