“ALARA” Doll Hosted at Misr Public Library in Ismailia
In a First-of-Its-Kind Initiative, ENRRA Engages School Students in Ismailia Governorate
The Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) organized an awareness seminar at the headquarters of Misr Public Library in Ismailia Governorate, with the participation of students from several schools across the governorate, as part of ENRRA’s Children’s Awareness Programme launched in October.
The event witnessed the participation of students from multiple schools, reflecting strong engagement from the local educational community.
The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Mahitab El Manawy, Head of the Public Relations and International Cooperation Department at ENRRA. During the event, the “ALARA” doll—portrayed by volunteer Juwairiya Mahmoud—appeared alongside storyteller Nermine Yousry, who presented ENRRA’s first children’s story, “I Build and He Monitors,” as part of the Authority’s awareness programme.
Through a simplified and age-appropriate storytelling approach, “ALARA” introduced students to ENRRA’s regulatory and oversight role, as well as the peaceful applications of nuclear and radiological technologies subject to the Authority’s supervision, contributing to building accurate awareness among young generations.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Dr. El-Manawy and Mr. Ramy Afifi, Senior Specialist for Strategic Communication and International Cooperation and Coordinator of ENRRA’s Children’s Awareness Programme, responded to a number of questions raised by participating students. The event was attended by Ms. Amal Ragab, Manager of Misr Public Library in Ismailia Governorate; Ms. Shaimaa El-Alfy, Manager of Misr Public Library – El Zaytoun Branch in Cairo; and Ms. Kholoud Mohamed, General Coordinator of Misr Public Library in Ismailia Governorate.
In recognition of ENRRA’s efforts in promoting scientific awareness, the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA), along with Dr. Mahitab El-Manawy and Mr. Ramy Afifi, was honored by Dr. Medhat Saleh, Dean of the Faculty of Education at Suez Canal University, and Dr. Nahla Tawadros, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, in the presence of Ms. Amal Ragab.
This initiative reflects ENRRA’s commitment to direct community engagement, particularly with younger generations, and to promoting nuclear and radiological safety awareness through innovative and accessible approaches.
