Dr. Khedr Chairman of ENRRA Participation in the Conference on Nuclear and Radiological Emergencies in Riyadh

On the sidelines of Egypt’s participation in the International Conference on Nuclear and Radiological Emergencies: Building the Future in an Evolving World, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 1–4 December 2025 and organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Hany Khedr, Chairman of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA), took part in Round Table 3 titled:

“The Role of Regional and International Exercises in Strengthening Emergency Preparedness and Response.”

The session brought together high-level experts and decision-makers from Romania, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

During the panel discussion, Dr. Khedr emphasized that national, regional, and international exercises remain one of the most effective tools for preventing emergencies before they occur, as they reveal gaps in communication, early-warning systems, and technical assessment mechanisms—allowing improvements before a real event unfolds.

He also underscored the crucial importance of involving political leaders and senior decision-makers in emergency exercises, noting that effective emergency response relies heavily on timely and confident decisions regarding protective actions, public communication, and international notification.

Dr. Khedr highlighted that when political leaders participate directly in such exercises, national readiness improves significantly, lessons learned are implemented more efficiently, and coordination among all stakeholders is strengthened.

This participation reflects ENRRA’s commitment to advancing international cooperation and enhancing Egypt’s national emergency preparedness and response framework in alignment with IAEA standards and global best practices.
