ENRRA carries out all regulatory and control works related to nuclear and radiation activities in the Arab Republic of Egypt for peaceful purposes, to ensure the security and safety of humans, property, and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.

ENRRA has the necessary power to carry out, in particular, the following:
Issuing, amending, suspending, renewing, revoking, and terminating all types of licenses of nuclear and radiation facilities and activities, in addition to the personal licenses issued to ionizing radiation workers’, in accordance with the Law (as amended) and its Executive Regulations.
Administrative closure of places using ionizing radiation in violation of the provisions of the Law and its Executive Regulations and decisions issued to implement them.
Issuing binding decisions and rules to the licenses – when necessary – to support and ensure safe and secure practices, without conflict with the conditions of the granted license.
Obtaining all documents, instruments, and information relevant to ENRRA’s functions from persons in charge of nuclear and radiation facilities and activities under ENRRA’s control and guarantees the confidentiality of such documents, instruments, and information.
Carrying out control and regulatory functions, including:
Practicing regulatory and control functions in the field of planning, preparedness, and response to nuclear and radiation emergencies, as specified in the Law, its Executive Regulations and decisions executing them.
Informing the public about the regulatory process of nuclear and radiation activities, setting means and procedures to involve the public, ensuring necessary procedures are taken to disseminate nuclear safety and security culture, and providing the public with any required information about the status of nuclear and radiation safety in the area of their residence unless this information is confidential by nature.
Coordinating with other governmental and non-governmental bodies working in fields related to the work of ENRRA.
Liaison with regulatory and control bodies in foreign countries and international organizations to promote cooperation and exchange of regulatory and control functions.
Setting regulations related to justified activities that involve radioactive sources used in food and drinks irradiation, cosmetics industry and any other goods for human consumption.
Setting regulations related to permissible radiation levels in case of import, production, export of any food stuff or other products related to human consumption.
Inspecting sites wherein or whereby products or services related to safety are supplied in accordance with relevant regulations.
Seeking the advice and assistance of international and consultancy agencies or TSOs, consultants or universities to support and develop ENRRA’s regulatory functions, in accordance with relevant regulations.
Setting regulations to commit operators to conduct nuclear and radiation safety assessment including safety re-assessment processes or regular safety review, during the operational lifetime of nuclear facilities.
Advising on draft laws related to nuclear and radiation activities.
Issuing quarterly reports on the national situation concerning radiation to the public and publishing them in the official gazette, media and press,
Reporting any breach of provisions of the Law (as amended) and its Executive Regulations.
