Participation in the fifteenth session of the Arab Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy

Dr. Samy Soliman, Chairman of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority – affiliated to cabinet of Ministers – gave a lecture entitled: The Infrastructure Development of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority; during his participation in the fifteenth session of the Arab Conference on Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy.
H.E started by presenting the facilities and peaceful activities that are subject to the oversight of the authority, including power reactors, research reactors and radioactive sources used by medical, industrial, petroleum and agricultural facilities, as well as for research purposes.
His Excellency then moved to present the historical development of the El-Dabaa reactor project, starting from 1964 to 2021; Which included an agreement with the Russian side on the construction of four nuclear plants with a capacity of 4800 megawatts.
His Excellency then presented an analysis of the legal and legislative framework regulating the role of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority; including international agreements signed by the government of the Arab Republic of Egypt and that entered into force. Then, His Excellency moved to present Law No. 7 of 2010 regulating nuclear and radiological activities, especially the materials regulating the role of the supervisory authority, confirming its independence, as well as articles that clarify the role of the licensee. His Excellency stressed that the law clarified the authority’s responsibilities to ensure the safe use of nuclear technology in various development fields, by issuing licenses and permits, reviewing documents and inspecting facilities to ensure safety and security.
